Panther/Homework Folder:

Every student will receive a Panther/Homework Folder at open house or on the first day of school. After you have looked over all of the information inside and filled out the important pieces such as the emergency card, please return the forms to the Panther/Homework Folder and send them to school. This folder will be used throughout the year for homework and communicating with one another. Please remember to look at this folder nightly and clean it out on a weekly basis.

Weekly Folder:

Each student will have a folder that we will call their Weekly Folder. Throughout the week, I will be putting graded work and other informational papers inside. Each Monday, this folder will go home for you to go through with your child. Please remember to return it to me on Tuesday morning empty, so that I may fill it with the next week’s papers.

Homework:

Homework assignments are due the following day after they are listed. Please remember to return the homework folder to school each day. If a student is absent they will be able to turn in the homework the next day. Extended time will be given to students that are out more than one day for illness.

Monthly Reading Calendar:

Each student is required to read for 20 minutes, five nights a week. Please record the time and initial on each of the five days on that month’s calendar. The calendar will be collected and counted up at the end of the month, and will be part of your child’s reading grade. This is a school wide policy.

Make-up Work:

The day your child returns to school after an absence, they will have on their desk the missed work.   If you know your child will be absent or leaving early, please let me know ahead of time so I can prepare the work they will be missing for them.

Grading Scale:
Prince William County Schools’ grading scale for grade 3-5 is as follows:
Grading Scale
A      -    90-100
B+    -     87-89
B      -     80-86
C+    -     77-79
C      -     70-76
D+    -     67-69
D      -     60-66
 F      -     59 and below

Birthday Treats:

Birthdays are exciting and fun to celebrate.  We welcome birthday cupcakes or other treats on your child’s birthday.  We will pass the treats out at lunch.  If your child has a summer birthday, you may select a day to bring in treats to celebrate their birthday with their classmates.

Volunteers:

Volunteers are always welcome in my classroom and are greatly appreciated at home as well.  Volunteers allow me greater time to prepare things and to work with your students.  If you did not have a chance to sign up at open house and you would still like to help out, please feel free to contact me. The best way to do so is through e-mail.

Contact me:
The best way to reach me is by writing a note in your child’s agenda since I see it daily. You may email me at glenniae@pwcs.edu. but often, I do not have a chance to check email at the end of the day. I look forward to a teaching your child and watching them grow academically and socially.

Thank you for all your continued support,

                                                                                                                                                      Mrs. Glenning
